PURPOSE AND RULES:
Here are the modified rules we used in the past and will use again this year.
Reminder that Monster Mania, takes place at the beginning of the year to introduce the kids to ball, and to allow the coaches to teach defense, try kids at different positions and to get as much action as possible in a short period of time.
Ideally it takes place prior to the first game.
Clinicians will be teaching how to warm up for pitching properly (bullpen), fielding/baserunning. hitting (in the cages, so coaches help them out with live arm, setting up tees etc)
Games:
1. Pitching machine with real balls. The defensive team coach feeds the machine, and they can manage their fielders. Make the speed a hittable speed. The machine should throw strikes consistently therefore moving the game quickly. No warming up pitchers, counting pitches, changing pitchers, balls etc..
2. If the ball hits a machine it is a single.
3. Strike outs in effect. So get the kids to swing, most pitches should be strikes. And there shouldn't be walks. Umpires will be there to work on positioning.
4. Play up to 11 kids in the field. 5 outfielders. -Hopefully no one should sit
5. Use a catcher, who will roll caught balls to the umpire.
6. Stealing is NOT allowed. Want kids to make force outs, hold up on balls in the air, pick up the 3rd base coach etc.
7. Everybody bats (like Slopitch), so the batting order shouldn't matter that much.
8. Keep score if you want. I'm counting defensive outs.
9. You have the diamond for 60minutes, 10 minutes an at bat makes 3innings, play more if you can. In a regular game, kids may only bat twice so this gives them a lot of action in a short time period.
Any questions please ask direct them to brandonminorbaseball@gmail.com prior to the event. On the day of the event, you may contact any BMBA 11U Coach on the diamonds.
